Design a Bookmark Winners Announced

Vibrance, intrigue, joy, and a lot of fungi have featured in this year's winning entries in Fraser Coast Libraries’ annual Design-a-Bookmark Competition.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said Council had a massive 257 entries this year, up from 183 last year.

“This was a brilliant opportunity to get creative and get your artwork published as a bookmark,” said Cr Seymour.

“Entries have increased steadily every year, so thank you to everyone who took the time to enter.

“For the first time, we included a new category for the 60+ age group which was well supported.”

Five of the six categories were judged by Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Curator Llewellyn Millhouse who was impressed with the quality and creativity this year.

“Our youngest winner showed such sophistication in her design while our oldest winner gave us a delightful portrait of a Maryborough cottage, which is a creative way to celebrate our region,” said Mr Millhouse.

The winners of the Fraser Coast Libraries’ Design-a-Bookmark Competition are:

  • 6 years and under – Mika De La Roche
  • 7 to 11 years - Henrietta Elliott
  • 12 to 17 years – Taelah Rowe
  • 18 – 59 years – Katie Bell
  • 60+ years – Carmel Davey
  • People’s Choice Award - Mia Lera

Cr Seymour said the People’s Choice Award was well supported this year with library staff receiving 1193 votes from residents who were invited to choose their favorite design.

“The entrants put in a magnificent effort creating their imaginative bookmark designs, and we’re delighted to acknowledge each of them by displaying their artwork,” he said.

“The winning bookmarks will soon be printed, and the winners will be presented with their $50 gift cards at a special ceremony in May.

“The winning bookmarks will also be available for free at all five library branches across the region.”
