Road Construction

Three rural and community roads projects valued at $1.5 million are underway.

The combined investment of $1.5 million by the Queensland Government and Fraser Coast Regional Council will deliver better road infrastructure and deliver much needed local jobs for communities across the region.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders welcomed the partnership as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.

“The Maryborough Electorate is at the centre of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery and the Palaszczuk Government is delivering it across the region,” Mr Saunders said.

“The replacement bridge on Nahrung Road and the resurfacing of Musket Flat Road will make the region more accessible and deliver local jobs when they’re needed the most.

“The Palaszczuk Government has invested $700,000 through Works for Queensland, to upgrade this infrastructure and create jobs in our regional communities.”

In the North Aramara district, a timber bridge on Nahrung Road (about 245 metres from the intersection with Musket Flat Road) will be replaced ($250,000) and the bitumen surface on Musket Flat Road will be extended as part of a $700,000 project.

“The wooden bridge has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with a concrete culvert,” Cr James Hansen said.

“The upgrade to Musket Flat Road will include the installation of stormwater drainage culverts, rebuilding of tabledrains, bitumen sealing, and line-marking and signage.”

It is anticipated that the project will be completed in June.

Narhung Road will remain open as a temporary one-lane sidetrack will be built to detour traffic around the jobsite.

It is anticipated that the project, which began this week, will be completed in June, weather permitting.

At Glenwood, $500,000 has been allocated to rebuild and seal Abbott Road (from the intersection of Sykes Road to the end of Abbott Road).

“In 2020, the Glenwood Progress Association also rated it as number two on a list of roads that should be sealed," Cr Phil Truscott said

“The project will also improve roadside drainage and provide improved turnaround facilities at the end of Abbott Road.”
