Lighting Up Council Facilities

Council offers the opportunity to light up selected buildings and public spaces in support of major events, cultural celebrations, and awareness campaigns.

  • Avenue of Fig Trees (Seafront Oval) – Currently unavailable
  • Fig Trees along Hervey Bay Esplanade – Currently unavailable

What events qualify?

Lighting requests must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Have a Fraser Coast-wide audience
  • Provide a benefit to all Fraser Coast residents
  • Attract 10,000 or more participants
  • Be a nationally recognised event represented in multiple states

Who can apply?

Applications are open to:

  • Registered not-for-profit organisations
  • Official community groups or organisations

Please note: Council reserves the right to use its lighting assets during a booked period or to cancel bookings at its discretion.

Council does not light up buildings in response to world events.

Application guidelines

To ensure a smooth process:

  • Submit your application at least six weeks before your desired lighting date
  • Applications can be made up to six months in advance
  • Each event or campaign requires a separate application
  • Applications are reviewed in the order received
  • Approved bookings may be changed or withdrawn to accommodate other significant events

Lighting displays are approved on a one-time basis. Future events require a new application.

Display duration and decision-making

Display duration is determined by Council and generally limited to a maximum of one month

  • Decisions are made by the Director/CEO (or their delegate), who will consider:
  • Public interest and relevance
  • Amenity impact on buildings and surrounding areas
  • Equal opportunity and non-discriminatory messaging
  • Any applicable laws and planning regulations

Fees

There is no cost to apply for lighting of Council facilities.

In case of issues

In the event of a power outage or maintenance issue, Council will aim to restore the lighting as soon as possible. Delays may occur, particularly on weekends.
