Road closures

For closures due to Council works in your local area:

Hervey Bay

  • Traffic conditions on the Esplanade in the vicinity of the Main Street roundabout will be impacted from 25–27 March between 5am and 3pm to allow for debris cleanup and tree maintenance pruning following Cyclone Alfred.

    • A one-lane, one-way traffic arrangement (eastbound) will be in place between Main Street and Taylor Street during this time.
    • Traffic controllers will be on site to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely around the area.

    Please follow signage and directions from traffic controllers for your safety. Council appreciates your patience and cooperation during these essential works. 

  • Astro Drive, Urangan - Temporary road and footpath closure from 1 July 2024

    Astro Drive Urangan, will be temporarily closed from the intersection of John Duigan Drive to End. This will be closed to vehicular traffic until future development within the site occurs. 

  • Works related to the Chapel Road/Madsen Road and Woods Road intersection upgrade are scheduled to begin 5 February 2025.

    To facilitate the project, the following traffic conditions will be implemented for the duration of the works, which are expected to be completed by September 2025 (subject to weather and construction conditions):

    • Madsen Road: full road closure.
    • Chapel Road: one-lane, two-way traffic arrangement.
    • Woods Road: one-way traffic flow southbound only.


    Detour routes will be put in place to support these changed traffic conditions.

Maryborough

There are currently no road closures in Maryborough.

  • Saltwater Creek Road and Hutchins Street - 17 February to 2 May 2025
    Temporary lane and road closures

    The Council is conducting kerb and channel replacement works on the eastern side of Saltwater Creek Road, between 25 Saltwater Creek Road and Hutchins Street.

    To ensure a safe working environment, one lane of Saltwater Creek Road is closed, along with a full closure of Hutchins Street between Saltwater Creek Road and Creek Lane.

    The works are expected to be completed by 2 May 2025, weather permitting.

  • Saltwater Creek Road and Woodrow Street - 24 February to 18 July 2025
    Temporary lane closures 

    Council has initiated a project to replace the kerb and channel along:

    • The northern side of Woodrow Street, from Wilson Street to Saltwater Creek Road.
    • The western side of Saltwater Creek Road, from Woodrow Street to 118 Saltwater Creek Road.

    The project will also include replacing the footpath on Saltwater Creek Road from Woodrow Street to 112 Saltwater Creek Road.

    Work schedule:

    • The works on Saltwater Creek Road commenced on 24 February 2025.
    • Work on Woodrow Street is scheduled to start in early May 2025, weather permitting.


    Traffic management:
    To ensure safety during construction:

    • One lane of Saltwater Creek Road will be closed.
    • Once work begins on Woodrow Street, a one-way traffic arrangement will be implemented, allowing traffic to travel westward only.


    The project is expected to be completed by 18 July 2025, weather permitting.

  • Frank Lawrence Circuit, Maryborough Airport - 26 February to 19 March 2025
    Temporary road closure

    Council is undertaking a project to reform the pavement and apply a bitumen seal to a 310-meter section of Frank Lawrence Circuit at Mayborough Airport.

    To ensure the safety of workers and the public during these works, Frank Lawrence Circuit will be closed from 26 February to 19 March 2025, weather permitting.

  • Water Main Construction Works
    Grosvenor Street (Treasure Street to Woodstock Street) - 11 March - 3 June (12 weeks), weather permitting.

    Council will undertake water main construction works in Grosvenor Street, Maryborough, between Treasure Street and Woodstock Street. 

    Work is planned to commence Tuesday, 11 March, from 7am and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete, weather permitting. 

    Council will be using various plant and heavy earth moving equipment and traffic control that may cause some disturbance to traffic flow in your area. Motorists and pedestrians are requested to observe roadwork signs, traffic control and signals for the duration of the works.

    Access to properties will remain open.

  • Ellena Street (March Lane to eastern end) - 13-14 March 2025
    Road closure - water main construction (weather permitting)

    A temporary road closure will be in place on Ellena Street, Maryborough (between March Lane and the eastern end) for water main construction works.

    Wide Bay Water will use heavy machinery and traffic control measures, which may cause some disruption. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to follow road signs and signals during this time.
