Open hours for the indoor heated learn-to-swim pool may vary depending on programs that are running at the time.Notice
Some aquatic programs may reduce the accessibility of the pools at different times. These programs may include Learn to Swim lessons, school swimming and carnivals, coaching, aquatic fitness programs and private hire. Please contact the centre so they can guide you with the best time to suit your needs.
Please be advised that the Learn to Swim or Program pools are not open to the public between the hours of 8.30am – 11am and 3pm – 5.30pm while Learn to Swim Lessons are on.

Work on our Stage 1B upgrade is now underway. Please note the following changes and disruptions to services:
- 50m Pool
- Lanes 1 and 2 are closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in mid-2025.
- Noise from demolition works began on January 14.
- From February 1 to March 31, opening hours will be reduced to 6 am to 6 pm due to the disconnection of outdoor light towers.
- From April 1, opening hours will be further reduced to 6:30 am to 5 pm as winter approaches.
- 25m Indoor Pool
- Public access will be limited to 8 am to 3 pm from April 1 to accommodate programs and bookings.
- Lagoon Pool
- The lagoon pool will remain closed until renovations are complete.
- Access Changes
- Part of the concrete path near the main entrance is off-limits.
- Learn-to-swim participants can access the 25m and program pools via the grass.
- Visitors with mobility concerns can check in at the main entrance and use the Boundary Road gate near Raward Road to access the 25m and program pools. A new pick-up and drop-off parking space has been added near this gate.

Council is a Watch Around Water Partner, a program of Royal Surf Life Saving Australia WA, for the purpose of operating its aquatic centres.
This means you must keep your children close by, when or in the pool.
Your safety is very important to us, so you must follow these safe supervision policies.
0-4 year olds (responsible person must wear wristband)
- When the child is in the water the Responsible Person must be in the water and stay within arm's reach,
- When the child is out of the water the Responsible Person must be close, be prepared and maintain constant visual contact.
5-11 year olds (must wear wristband)
- The Responsible Person must be close, be prepared and maintain constant visual contact.
12-15 year olds
- The Responsible Person must consider the child's swimming ability to determine whether they may be unaccompanied at the Centre.
Supervision ratios
- 0-4 year olds - maximum two children to one Responsible Person
- 5-11 year olds - maximum four children to one Responsible Person
A Responsible Person must:
a. be at least 16 years of age;
b. not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
c. be capable of supervising the person/s they have accompanied to the pool;
d. be ready, willing and able in an emergency to enter the water and retrieve the person/s they have accompanied to the pool; and
e. be nearby to the person/s they have accompanied to the pool, and maintain constant visual communication with them.

The indoor program pool has a temperature of between 33-35 degrees. Access to this area is reserved for:
- Water Familiarisation for children under the age of 3 (with 1 (one) supervising adult)
- Walking and Upright exercise and Therapy/Rehabilitation
Strictly no lap swimming or recreation play is allowed at any time.Available to the public
- Monday to Friday: 6am-9am and 11am-3pm
- Saturday: Closed (1 May to 27 October) and 11am to 5pm (28 October to 30 April)
- Sunday: 9am to 11:30am (1 May to 27 October) and 9am to 5pm (28 October to 30 April)

Council inflatables operate at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre during the hotter months and during school holidays. Days and times of operation will be advised via their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/HerveyBayAquaticCentre
The use of the inflatables is weather dependent and cannot be used during storms or high winds.The inflatables are free to use, just pay your entry to the Aquatic Centre.
Inflatable rules of play
25m Pool Inflatable
- You must be under 1.2m to go on the junior inflatable
- No swim test is required for the junior inflatable, however a parent/guardian must remain on the edge of the pool at all times (a lifeguard will be in the water with the children)
- Only two children at a time on the inflatable
50m Pool Inflatable
- A swim test is required for those going on the 50m inflatable – you must be able to swim to the middle of the pool in the deep end, raise one arm for assistance and return to the edge
- Only one person on the first half of the inflatable at a time
- Children who need buoyancy aids will not be permitted
Both Inflatables
- No sharp objects on inflatable (no buckles, jewellery, hair clips, keys or eyeglasses)
- No drink or food
- No pushing in line
- Exit to side of pool when you fall from inflatable, no swimming under the inflatable
- No bodily contact with other patrons
- No running, diving, flips or bombing
- Enter water feet first
- No footwear on inflatable
- Follow Lifeguard instructions at all times
