SplashSide set to open in Maryborough’s Anzac Park
“The work has finished and it’s time to play,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.
“To mark the opening, Council has organised a small community celebration and ribbon cutting on Saturday, June 12.
“SpashSide will be open from noon for families to try out and then at 1pm the Assistant Minister for Local Government, Nikki Boyd, and the State Member for Maryborough, Bruce Saunders will join me to officially open the facility.
“Anzac Park is already a popular outdoor space in Maryborough, and SplashSide is set to make it an even more attractive place for residents and visitors.”
Access to the Anzac Park car park will be restricted to disabled parking to enable food stalls and a children’s activity area (organised by Fraser Coast Libraries staff) to be set up.
Extra car parking space will be available in Queens Street (accessed from Cheapside Street and Lions Drive).
The new facility includes a range of features such as sensory wall, inclusive orbit element, a spoon full of sugar discharge bucket, a trampoline, waterfall, crystal fountains and a hammock.
Other features will include stream jets, a roller slide, cosmic cannons, spray jets, sugar cane spray poles, a new shelter with a barbecue, and improved amenities.
The SplashSide Water Play and All Abilities Playground is a joint initiative of Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Government, which has provided $3 million through the COVID Works for Queensland program to ensure the project could be completed all at once, rather than in stages.
“Council is keen to ensure we have a healthy and active community here on the Fraser Coast and facilities like SplashSide help us to achieve that outcome,” Cr Seymour said.
“We can’t wait to see the smiles on the faces of families enjoying what will be a fabulous facility for generations to come.”
