Community Champion

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Fraser Coast Ability Awards, which recognise those living with a disability and individuals, groups and organisations who have contributed to improving the lives of people with disabilities.

“The Fraser Coast Ability Awards shine the spotlight on those in our community who inspire, mentor and achieve results in their chosen fields,” Cr Zane O’Keefe said.

“If you would like to nominate a superstar from the community who deserves recognition for improving the lives of people with disabilities, then this is your chance.

“Being recognised for your valuable contribution helps people feel more engaged and connected with their community. That’s why it’s important for people to nominate a person or organisation for these awards.”

Cr O’Keefe said the annual awards ceremony was a great opportunity for everyone to come together to celebrate each other’s achievements.

“The Ability Awards were presented in a virtual ceremony last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, so it will be fantastic to be back at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough on September 9 for the awards ceremony,” he said.

“At these events there is a sense of belonging, friendship and fun. It is a real party atmosphere.”

Last year’s Community Champion Award recipient, Jayden Lem said receiving recognition for his work as a disability carer was very motivating to continue improving the quality of life for others.

Nomination forms for the 2021 Fraser Coast Ability Awards are available on the Council website at www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/ability-awards and can be submitted online before 29 August, 2021.
