Brolga Theatre car parks to almost double

The number of car parks at the Brolga Theatre and Convention Centre in Maryborough will almost double to 237 spaces, with a $780,000 upgrade through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Llew O'Brien said the upgrade would improve access to the Brolga Theatre for local families and visitors, as well as creating seven local jobs throughout the construction stage.

“The Brolga Theatre is a first-class theatre and conference venue, which attracts the finest international and national performers, and it’s an important tourism drawcard for our region as it draws large audiences from all over Wide Bay and further afield,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The addition of 105 car parks ensures that the centre continues to meet the needs of a growing region, and it also goes to the heart of the Coalition Government’s investment in important infrastructure projects like this one – creating a stronger community, supporting local jobs, and building our economy.”

The project, to be undertaken by local company SGQ,  is part of $9,815,996 in funding for Fraser Coast Regional under the first three phases of the $2.5 billion Local Road and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, which is supporting jobs and local economies to help communities including Maryborough bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Work started this week and is anticipated to be finished by end of September, weather permitting.

“The car park extension will ensure that the Brolga remains the premier entertainment venue in the region,” Councillor Paul Truscott said.

“Performances and events staged at the Brolga Theatre draw huge audiences with patrons often having to park on the grass as all the current designated car parks are full.

“The extra 105 car parks will make it easier for everyone to get a parking space and will make getting in and out of the venue cleaner, safer and easier.”
