Over 50s expo, scooters, seniors

The Over 50s Lifestyle Expo will go ahead this year – in a slightly different COVID-19-friendly format at the Stockland Shopping Centre.

The expo is one of a multitude of activities that will be held during Seniors Month in October.

“The expo provides information and showcases services and facilities available to people over 50 years of age in our region,” Fraser Coast Deputy Mayor Darren Everard said.

“This year stall holders will be placed throughout the shopping centre mall from Wednesday, October 6 to Friday, October 8 from 8.45am to 5pm.

“There will be 28 different exhibitors each day so attendees will have the option to experience fresh offerings all week.”

The Expo committee is also organising for exhibitors to be involved in dozens of free Seniors Month activities that are being held across Hervey Bay in October.

The activities will also be promoted on the Seniors’ Month calendar available on the Council webpage.

Other events programmed for Seniors Month include the Mayor’s picnic, mystery bus tour, concerts, kite flying and a carnival.

Seniors liaison officer Juls De Waard said the jam-packed month was an opportunity for anyone over 50 to meet new people and engage with the community.

“Isolation and loneliness are huge issues so I am hoping that during October these events will encourage people to get out of the house,” she said.

“We want our seniors to be confident, stay active and be engaged with the community.

“Seniors have contributed to our community for years and made our region what it is today, and Seniors Month is about celebrating the mature members of our community.”
