Kerbside collection of disaster waste finishing soon

Flood affected Fraser Coast residents wanting to take advantage of free kerbside collection of bulk disaster waste are encouraged to clean up with the service set to end on Friday, 11 February.

Cr David Lee said Council was offering the collection service to residential properties within areas highly impacted by the flood and for waste created by the flood.

“All requests relating to the kerbside pick-up of disaster bulk waste from flood impacted residents must be made to Council’s Waste Services Team on 1300 79 49 29 by noon on Tuesday February 8,” Cr Lee said.

“To date, over 1100 tonnes of disaster waste has been taken to Council waste facilities.

“Waste placed on footpaths in areas that were not subject to flooding or placed on footpaths after February 11 in the flood impacted areas, will not be collected and should be disposed of at one of Council’s Waste Facilities.

“Waste not created by the flood which has been placed on the kerbside will be considered as illegal dumping and fines may apply.

“If you have put waste out for collection and it has not been removed yet, please call Council on 1300 79 49 29 to notify the Waste team.”

To assist in the collection process waste should be placed neatly and separated rather than lumped in a pile of mixed items.

Items can be separated into the following categories:

  • Garden organics
  • Scrap Metal and white goods
  • Mattresses
  • Furniture and general household items
  • Electronic waste
  • Concrete, bricks and masonry
  • General demolition waste
  • No asbestos-containing materials should be placed on the footpath for collection.
