Sand push

The annual sand push on Hervey Bay beaches is underway.

“Fraser Coast Regional Council does a sand push every winter to profile particular beaches and build up the dunes to protect them from the waves whipped by the northerly winds in November and King Tides in January and February,” Cr Daniel Sanderson said.

“The sand is pushed up against the dunes as a buffer to provide protection from further erosion.”

The work will be undertaken on beaches generally between:

  • Beach Road Pump Station up to and including the Pialba Caravan Park;
  • Seafront Oval and in front of the Skate Park;
  • Tooan Tooan Creek mouth east towards the Scarness Jetty;
  • Scarness Boat Ramp to the Torquay Boat Ramp;
  • Alexander Street to the Churchill Street groyne;
  • The Urangan Pier to the Aquarium;
  • Aquarium (south of the rocky area) toward the Marina.

“Some beaches and beach access points will be temporarily closed during the works. heavy equipment on the beach and to follow cautionary signage.” Cr Lee said.

“It is anticipated the push will be completed in late June, depending on weather, tides, winds and the amount of sand available to push.”

If delayed, the works will continue after the school holidays.

Beach goers are asked to watch out for equipment and comply with advisory safety signs during the works.
