Sections of the Hervey Bay hinterland road network which are a major link for the Craignish and Dundowran communities will be given a $6 million upgrade.

The project includes pavement rehabilitation works on a 1.08 km section of Craignish Road (Hornes Road to Karraschs Road) and a 1.03 km section of Hornes Road (Craignish Road to Cork Road).

“Craignish Road is a major spoke in the rural roads network,” Cr Jade Wellings said.

“It provides direct access to the Hervey Bay to Maryborough Road for many residents of the Craignish, Dundowran and Toogoom communities.”

“The works were scheduled following information gathered in road network inspections program which indicated the roads were in poor condition.”

The project has been awarded to Maryborough-based company Civil Mining and Construction. It is anticipated that the work will start in September.

Council has received $1.9 million for the Hornes Road and Craignish Road projects from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.

The works are a continuation of projects to redevelop Craignish Road which started in 2010.

Craignish Road has received significant attention in the past 10 years.

In 2011/12 Council allocated $830,000 for works along Craignish Road near the Castles Road south intersection near the Karraschs Road intersection.

In 2019 Council undertook a $1.85 million project to reconstruct Craignish Road from Castles Road to Karraschs Road.
