Shows return at Brolga Theatre after five-month hiatus

The Brolga Theatre in Maryborough will host its first live stage show in five months with next week’s ‘Morning Melodies’ musical also to be live streamed to local nursing homes and lifestyle communities.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said COVID-19 had kept arts and live performance venues shuttered since March so it was fantastic to be able to welcome back patrons for a range of upcoming events at the Brolga Theatre.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous economic and social impact on the community, and the arts and live performance industry has been particularly hard hit,” he said.

“The Brolga Theatre’s stage has been bare and dressing rooms empty for far too long, so it is wonderful to be able to start bringing the theatre alive once more.”

Cr Seymour said audience numbers would be limited with physical distancing measures in place such as seating patrons in ‘bubbles’ with space between groups as part of the Theatre’s COVID safe plan.

“Theatre staff will be trialling a live stream of the performance using multiple cameras with access provided by a secure web link to several local nursing homes and lifestyle communities,” he said.

“We recognise that these are some of the most vulnerable members of our community, and we want to do what we can to bring quality entertainment and a new theatre experience to them in the comfort and safety of their own homes.”

‘Love Sick’ is part of the Brolga Theatre’s Morning Melodies program with the show focussing on the highs and lows of romance on and off stage through iconic duets, swirling dance sequences and songs from silver screen to stage blockbusters.

‘Love Sick’ stars Justin Tamblyn and Shannon Gralow and is on at 11am on Thursday 27 August at the Brolga Theatre, with tickets costing $15 or $14 for Friends of the Brolga and $13 for groups of 10 or more.

Tickets are still available, but bookings must be made over the phone by contacting the Brolga Theatre on 4122 6060.

The performance of ‘Love Sick’ will be followed by Queensland Ballet workshops on 30 and 31 August.

To celebrate Seniors Month (August), the Queensland Ballet and the Fraser Coast Regional Council will also be offering two free classes for seniors focusing on improving poise, core strength, memory and mobility.

The classes will be held on 30 August with limited numbers and will also be live streamed to local aged care facilities.
