Section of Scarness Caravan Park opens for school holidays

Part of the Scarness Caravan Park will reopen in time for the September school holidays, with the eastern section now available for bookings for self-contained caravans and RVs.

Councillor David Lee said the Fraser Coast Regional Council was progressively upgrading the Scarness Caravan Park over the next 18 months.

“The caravan park was partially closed due to COVID-19 restrictions in late March and then was completely closed in June after testing identified the need to replace underground electrical cabling throughout the entire site,” he said.

“Council had already begun master planning for the four beachfront tourist caravan parks we own, and has decided to fast track the process for the Scarness Caravan Park with a work plan developed that allows the park to reopen in stages.

“The first stage is completed and has involved removing the powerheads in the eastern section, while still leaving the roads and slabs in place and the dump point open. Solar lighting has been installed and potable water will be available.

“This means the eastern section will be open for the September school holidays as a self-contained caravan and RV site for about 40 campers, with bookings now being taken on line via the Scarness Caravan Park website.

“The western and middle sections of the park will remain closed while the above ground facilities are demolished and underground services removed.

“We are working with the aim of opening the middle and western sections as a greenfield site allowing for up to 100 self-contained caravan and RV sites to be booked for the Christmas holiday period, with all on site works ceasing from mid-December to mid-January.”

Cr Lee said work would start on a newly designed, fully serviced caravan park in 2021.

“While every effort is being made to minimise the impact on businesses and guests, there may be some noise and dust issues while the work is underway,” he said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience to businesses and guests while the work is carried out, but the end result will be a safer, more modern caravan park catering for the needs of today’s tourists.”
