Award season on the Fraser Coast

CAPTION: Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour with previous Fraser Coast Ability Award winner Jeremiah Hay and Dan Mulheron, co-owner of Eat at Dan & Stephs.

They’re back – as COVID-19 restrictions ease, the Fraser Coast Regional Council is relaunching its awards programs.

Applications are now open for the monthly Sports Award (Senior and Junior) and the Arts and Cultural Person Award (Senior and Junior). Council is also calling for nominations for the annual Ability Awards and the 2021 Australia Day Awards.

The monthly Sports Award and Arts and Cultural Person of the Month Award recognise the contribution the arts, cultural and sporting communities make to the lifestyle we enjoy, Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.

“The Arts and Cultural Person Award covers all art and cultural activities from the fine arts such as painting and sculpture to performers as well as those who organise cultural activities,” Cr Seymour said.

“Similarly with the Sports Awards; it recognises the efforts of players, administrators and the hardworking volunteers.

“They will be judged in two categories to cover juniors and seniors and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

“The awards are open to anyone whose primary residence is the Fraser Coast region.”

Nomination forms are available on the Council website https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/awards

and must be lodged by 4pm on the second Monday of each month.

For more information on the monthly awards contact Council Community and Culture team on 1300 79 49 29 or by email at community@frasercoast.qld.gov.au.

Award recipients will be automatically entered into the corresponding 2021 Australia Day award categories.

Cr Seymour said nominations were also now open for the 2020 Fraser Coast Ability Awards.

The awards showcase the achievements of our community to make the Fraser Coast the most inclusive region in Australia, Mayor George Seymour said.

“The Fraser Coast is a wonderfully inclusive community,” he said.

“These awards celebrate and recognise the achievements of people with a disability and the services sector who contribute to a more inclusive Fraser Coast.”
