Community workshops held as part of local laws review

Fraser Coast residents are being urged to register for upcoming community workshops being held as part of a review of local laws that cover everyday issues like animal management, parking, beach safety and waste management.

Councillor David Lewis said Council’s existing local laws were made in December 2011 so it was timely to review the laws to ensure they met community expectations and were user-friendly.

“Local laws help make our communities safer and better places to live and work,” he said.

“Our local laws on the Fraser Coast cover a broad range of issues such as how animals can be kept, noise and visual pollution, shopping trolleys outside shopping precincts, car parking, beach safety, and the storage and removal of waste.

“We want to hear from the community about what they think is working well with our local laws, what should be changed, what should be removed from our local laws or if there are new local laws we should introduce.

“Council has established a dedicated web page - https://frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/local-laws - and will be running four free community workshops in late July.

“We would love as many people as possible to attend these workshops to have their say on our local laws, but registration is essential as catering will be provided.”

The four local laws review community workshops are being held at:

• Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, Pialba, Monday 26 July, 5.30pm – 8pm
• Brolga Theatre Foyer, Maryborough, Tuesday 27 July, 5.30pm – 8pm
• Tiaro Memorial Hall, Wednesday 28 July, 5.30pm – 8pm
• Torbanlea Community Hall, Thursday 29 July, 5.30pm – 8pm

This initial round of community engagement on local laws will run for more than two months, with an online survey to be open from 22 July to 19 August 2021.
