Skaters, scooter and BMX riders will be able to put their skills to the test on a new pump track being built at the Tiaro Memorial Park to replace the ageing skate park.

Cr Phil Truscott said the existing skate park at Tiaro Memorial Park had reached the end of its useful life and the decision to replace it with a pump track was made in consultation with the local community. “A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and jumps designed to be ridden by generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing,” he said.

“Pump tracks are rapidly becoming popular recreation facilities across the country, and I’m sure this new 37 metre track will be well received by the local community. “Council is determined to support an active and healthy community through providing parks and open spaces that are enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities.

“It’s all part of our plan to build better communities together.” Work on the Tiaro pump track will start in mid-July and be completed by early September, weather permitting.

Council also plans to develop pump tracks in Anzac Park in Maryborough and at a yet-to-be-determined location in Hervey Bay with the support of a $1.3 million grant from the State Government through the Works for Queensland program.
