The Howard Library is re-opening after a revamp during which the building was extended in the first stage of a wider renovation.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor David Lewis said stage one of the works maximised the space available in the computer area and include the installation of new customer service desk.

“The improvements are designed to meet customer needs and increase access to services and activities,” he said.

“We understand how valuable the Howard Library is to the community and further works are proposed to ensure the facility keeps pace with community aspirations.”

Cr Lewis said future stages of renovation works would include repositioning of the entrance to improve accessibility, landscaping and inclusive spaces for children and young people.

“We thank the Queensland Government for providing $75,000 through the 2020-2021 COVID Works for Queensland program to help us with this renovation project.

“We also thank residents for their patience during the works.”

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to support the upgrades to the Howard Library with $75,000 in COVID Works for Queensland funding.

“The COVID Works for Queensland program is designed to support councils with job-creating infrastructure projects,” Mr Saunders said.

“The Howard Library is back to providing services for locals after our investment delivered more spaces for the community and provided a much need facelift.

“Through the program, Fraser Coast Regional Council has been allocated more than $9 million to help deliver 21 community infrastructure projects.

“These projects have already supported or created 137 jobs, which is a fantastic result for the local economy and for local families.”
