The SplashSide water playground at Anzac Park in Maryborough will close until the end of June for annual maintenance and upgrades to the floor surface treatment to reduce slips and trips.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Daniel Sanderson said SplashSide had proven popular since it opened in June 2021, with Council taking the opportunity to do these works during the cooler months.

“SplashSide is a fabulous facility for families that includes a range of interactive water features, all-inclusive play equipment, as well as shelters, barbecues and toilets,” he said.

“The annual maintenance will include servicing the filtration pump, removing and servicing all the centrifugal pumps that operate water futures, a hydro-vac clean of the backwash tank and cleaning all strainers in the filter room.

“Along with the annual maintenance works, the current blue and cream painted surfaces will be removed and replaced with a Tuff Coat product.

“The Tuff Coat product is used in the rainbow-coloured areas of the facility, and there seems to be fewer trips and skids of children reported in those areas.”

Cr Paul Truscott said Anzac Park was being transformed into one of the premier parks on the Fraser Coast with a range of works underway.

“When SplashSide re-opens at the end of June, it will be part of an expanded youth precinct in Anzac Park, which includes the skate park and new pump track,” he said.

“In addition, the Anzac Park car park is currently being resealed with the help of funding from the State Government’s Works for Queensland program.

“We hope all the work will be completed by the beginning of the school holidays.

“However, that will be weather dependent as it has to be dry for the Tuff Coat to be applied at SplashSide.

“It’s been wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of families enjoying SplashSide, and I look forward to the facility reopening after these works are completed.

“It’s all about ensuring we provide the best and safest facility for our residents and visitors.”

SplashSide will close from today (Wednesday, 10 May), for the maintenance and surface treatment works.
