Council grants support community projects and events

Refurbishing the River Heads community garden, new paddles to help the Hervey Bay Dragon Boat Club train students and a community defibrillator in Tiaro are among the initiatives supported under the latest round of the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s Community Grants program.

Cr James Hansen said Council had approved more than $63,000 in grants to assist 15 local community groups and not-for-profit organisations under round four of the 2022-23 Community Grants program.

“Council’s grant scheme offers a range of opportunities for groups to apply for funding for projects and events that help ensure we have a vibrant, connected and inclusive community,” he said.

“It is great to see so many community-driven activities being organised across the region, and Council is pleased to be able to support community groups to develop their facilities and events.”

Grants approved under Round Four of the Community Grants program include:

  • Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association QF21 Sandy Straits, fishing competition promoting community awareness of boating safety, $1930;
  • Maroom Progress and Ratepayers Association, to install blinds around the verandah extension on community building, $10,000;
  • Tiaro and District Chamber of Commerce, community defibrillator, $2666.50
  • Brooweena Primary P and C Association, marquee and banners for use at school and community events and functions, $2380
  • Guides Queensland – Girl Guides Burrum Heads, lease plan survey of buildings, $2450
  • Hervey Bay Dragon Boat Club, 20 new paddles for student training group exercises, $3000;
  • Fraser Coast Sporting Clays Association Inc, driveway repairs, $2550;
  • River Heads Progress Association, refurbishment of community garden/food forest, $2000;
  • Maryborough Motorcyclists Club, track resurfacing, $13,500;
  • Wide Bay Burnett Cutting Club, Maryborough Masters Games cutting event, $3000;
  • Howard State School P and C Association, community movie/disco night, $2500;
  • 5 to Drive Ltd, Great Gatsby Masquerade Ball promoting road safety awareness, $2000;
  • Maryborough and District Animal Refuge Society, volunteer shelter, $5500;
  • Kindness Works Ltd, emergency homelessness shelter, $3273;
  • Hervey Bay Basketball Association, relocatable grandstand, $6345.
