Building for lease

Fraser Coast community and sporting groups are encouraged to express their interest in leasing a vacant building on the Tavistock Street sporting fields in Torquay.

Cr David Lee said Council was offering a lease for up to 10 years at a peppercorn rate of $1 per year with expressions of interest open from today (Monday 11 September) until Monday 9 October 2023.

“Council is keen to ensure we have connected, inclusive communities and spaces, and that we do we what we can to encourage community participation and activation,” he said.

“As the Fraser Coast continues to grow, so too do community and sporting groups’ requirements for storage and meeting space.

“This is an opportunity for a local not-for-profit organisation to submit a proposal to use this building at the Tavistock Street sporting fields themselves or in a shared arrangement.

“The building is a prefabricated tin structure that does not have current building certification with the successful lessee to be responsible for obtaining certification and any required approvals.

“It is only being offered to not-for-profit community and sporting groups, the building is not available for commercial use.”

Cr Lee said more information, including the request for proposal documents, was available on Council’s Engagement Hub website at https://frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/community-lease-tavistock-st

“Proposal submissions are open for four weeks to give community groups time to do their due diligence and conduct a mandatory site inspection,” he said.

“Council’s leasing team are available to assist with general enquiries, and will consider and evaluate all the proposals to make a recommendation to Council to decide which group is provided the lease.”
