Free electronic music concert and workshops in Tiaro

Award-winning electronic music duo the Ironing Maidens will bring dance music with a difference to Tiaro next week (5 and 6 October).

Ingeniously adapting real irons and ironing boards into electronic instruments to create breakthrough music, ‘Electro Housewife’ is a playful, thought-provoking, wholly entertaining experience.

“It’s a high-energy mix of music, visuals, costumes, dancing and Ironing puns,” artist Melania Jack explained.

“We see our show as a fresh take on house music. In an entertaining way, we explore feminism and domestic labour, but we also celebrate the history of technology and women in electronic music.”

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Phil Truscott said the Ironing Maidens would perform a free all-ages concert at the Tiaro Memorial Hall from 6pm on Friday 6 October and will also run free music and dance workshops at the Tiaro Community Centre from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday 5 October.

“This tour has come about from a partnership between the Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, South and North Burnett Regional Councils and CQUniversity, who have been working together to develop the Wide Bay Burnett Touring Circuit,” he said.

“The aim of the touring circuit is to increase opportunities for audiences across the Wide Bay to experience diverse art forms and high-quality acts, as well as provide skills development opportunities for artists, young people and the wider community.

“The Ironing Maidens have previously toured to large festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival and international festivals such as Fusion Germany, the Berlin Performance Art Festival.

“We are so excited to be now bringing them to the Fraser Coast where they will be helping to build our local community's music and dance skills.”

Bookings are essential to attend the family-friendly and alcohol-free performance. Places are limited for the workshops, with anyone of any skill level aged 12 and up encouraged to attend.
