Abbot Road, Glenwood

A road in Glenwood significantly damaged in the 2022 floods will be made safer and smoother.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Phil Truscott said reconstruction works to repair flood damage to Abbott Road were due to start this week.

“The 2022 floods caused significant damage to roads right across the Fraser Coast, including in Glenwood, with about $5 million in flood recovery and repair works allocated in Council’s 2022/23 capital works budget, ” he said.

“The Abbott Road pavement rehabilitation project will include removing the existing road surface, placing pavement material, bitumen sealing and line marking.

“Council is committed to effectively managing and maintaining our assets, and that’s what this project is all about.

“Glenwood is a growing community on the Fraser Coast and Council is working to repair and improve essential public assets such as the road network as soon as possible.

“We thank the Australian and Queensland governments for making this project in Abbott Road possible under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.”

The tender to deliver the project has been awarded to local company Jac Civil with the work due for completion by January 2024, weather permitting.

Traffic and pedestrian management will be in place during the works.
