Blood drive

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has again achieved great results in the Lifeblood Local Government Blood Drive, with more blood collected from Council team members than any other Council in the country.

With 264 donations made by Council during the drive, these donations helped up to 792 patients in need.

Lifeblood spokesperson Liam Richardson said the Local Government Blood Drive was a great boon for donations, with more than 6000 made during the drive, which ran between July and September.

“As always, we were thrilled with the response of this blood drive. Councils across Australia banded together and gave plenty for patients in need,” he said.

“An extra special thank you to the Fraser Coast Regional Council, which gave more than any other Council in the country. A fantastic achievement.”

Fraser Coast Regional Council CEO Ken Diehm said he was proud that Council had once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the community by leading the nation in blood donations.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every Council staff member who rolled up their sleeves and participated in the Lifeblood Local Government Blood Drive,” he said.

“Their selflessness and generosity have not only made a significant difference in the lives of patients in need, but have also showcased the compassion that defines our Council community.”

“As we celebrate the success of our Council’s efforts, I want to encourage our community to join us in this meaningful cause,” Cr Paul Truscott said.

“The need for blood is constant, especially at Christmas time, and by donating, you can play a vital role in saving lives. Let’s come together as a community and continue to positively impact the health and well-being of others.”

Cancer treatment, emergency surgery, road trauma and bleeding during childbirth are some of the most common uses for donated blood in Australia, and more donors are needed across the Fraser Coast Council and further afield.
