Community Tree Planting

Fraser Coast residents are being encouraged to help green our community by joining a tree planting event in Booral following World Environment Day next month.

Mayor George Seymour said Council’s Natural Environment team was organising a community tree planting event at the corner of Pelican Avenue and Swan Drive in Booral on Saturday, 8 June from 8am to 11am.

“This year’s World Environment Day theme, ‘Generation Restoration’, calls on all of us to contribute to a sustainable future,” he said.

“Planting trees benefits the environment by enhancing air quality and supporting wildlife, and it strengthens community ties.

“Planting trees also helps make the Fraser Coast a more attractive place to live and visit.”

Cr John Weiland said green thumbs of all ages were welcome, with the event perfect for families and anyone eager to contribute to a greener Fraser Coast.

“Council will provide local native species of trees for planting, tools, and gloves. Be sure to wear a hat, sunscreen, and enclosed shoes, and please bring a water bottle,” he said.

“Do your bit for the environment and help Council achieve our goal of planting 100,000 trees by 2030 as part of our Greening Fraser Coast Strategy. Together we can shape a healthy and environmentally responsible future for generations to come on the Fraser Coast,” he said.

The community tree planting event on the corner of Swan Drive and Pelican Avenue in Booral from 8am to 11am on Saturday 8 June will include:

  • A free BBQ breakfast;
  • An environmental educational walk
  • Activities for the kids.

The event is free but residents are encouraged to pre-register by emailing environment@frasercoast.qld.gov.au or calling Customer Service on 1300 79 49 29.

The tree planting event at Booral follows a successful community tree planting at Point Vernon on Saturday 27 April. A third community tree planting event is being planned for Tinana on Saturday 27 July.
