Wedding deck

The wedding deck on the Esplanade in Torquay is getting a $40,000 makeover, which will benefit residents and visitors planning weddings, holding markets and other events.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Sara Diana Faraj said the wedding deck in Bill Fraser Park was a popular spot for weddings, market hire and other events as it offered ocean views, was central to everything in Torquay and had direct access to the beach.

“The wedding deck has been showing signs of timber rot and decay due to its age, so we are replacing the deteriorating timber to ensure it remains open and available for hire,” she said.

“While it's a charming location for weddings, it's also an excellent venue for the Torquay markets, which hire the deck every week.

“The refurbishment will enhance the deck’s safety and transform it into a vastly improved space for upcoming weddings and events.”

Fraser Coast Regional Council has 40 attractive outdoor locations for weddings and events, including parks, halls, and gardens.

Anyone wishing to hold a wedding or ceremony on Council land needs to make a booking.

Saying “I do” in a Council park costs $100 for ceremonies, $100 for receptions, or $170 for both, offering an exceptionally affordable choice for weddings.

The Torquay wedding deck refurbishment began this week and will be completed by the end of the month.
