A Dog's Day Out

Event Program

Fraser Coast dog owners can treat their furry friends and renew their annual dog registration at ‘A Dog’s Day Out’ in Hervey Bay this weekend.

Cr John Weiland said the event, designed to be both educational and fun for the whole family, would run from 8 am to 12 noon on Sunday, 13 October, at Dayman Park in Urangan.

“While having a dog brings joy and companionship, it also involves responsibilities such as ensuring they are registered annually, as required under Queensland Government legislation,” he said.

“Council’s ‘A Dog’s Day Out’ is a fur-tastic opportunity to bring the community together for a fun-filled event featuring prizes for the best-dressed dog, best trick and an owner look-alike competition.

“Attendees can also explore market stalls with pet products, enjoy a rescue dog catwalk, watch agility demonstrations, and get free expert vet advice.”

Cr Weiland said ‘A Dog’s Day Out’ coincides with the annual dog registration renewal period, with renewal notices sent out from late September and payments due by 31 October.

“This year we’re offering an exciting incentive – a chance to win a $200 Fraser Coast Buy Local Gift Card for those who renew their dog’s registration at the event,” he said.

“It’s a perfect way to take care of this important task while socialising your dog and enjoying a fun day out with the whole family.”

Free microchipping will also be available, and Council’s Customer Service team will be on-site to register pets for the first time, at no cost.

“In the Fraser Coast region, it is mandatory for dogs to be registered from 12 weeks of age and within 14 days of owners moving here, and your first time registration is free,” Cr Weiland said.

“Keeping your pet’s registration and microchip details up to date, including changes of address, helps reduce the number of stray animals and makes it easier for Council to reunite lost pets with their families.”

Dog owners who have recently desexed their pets and hold a Concession Card may be eligible for a $100 reimbursement, with forms available at the event.
