The Hervey Bay Orchid House, located in the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens, was established in 2000 to commemorate the Centenary of Federation. The building was designed to replicate the federation-style conservatories of Britain and Europe at the turn of the 19th century. It was officially opened on Australia Day, January 26, 2001.
The collection includes 85 different orchid genera including popular orchids such as cattleyas, dendrobiums, oncidiums, phalaenopsis and brassias; native orchids including cymbidiums, spiranthes and phaius; rare orchids including the Vanilla planifolia; and accompanying indoor plants inlcuding the Fraser Island King Fern, Pitcher Plant and the giant White Bat Plant.
