Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct
The Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct in Nikenbah officially opened its gates on Saturday, 16 February 2019. This multi-stage, 60-hectare development is a significant initiative by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to support the growing sports and recreation needs of our community.
Designed to evolve in stages, this venue offers an exciting space for local sports enthusiasts and community members to come together. It will serve as a hub for various sports and recreational activities, catering to the Fraser Coast region now and into the future.
Precinct features:
Netball:
- Eight acrylic, non-slip standard courts meeting Netball Australia specifications.
- Lighting exceeding 200 lux for optimal visibility.
- A dedicated clubhouse facility for players and officials.
Soccer:
- Two premium playing fields and two standard fields designed to FIFA standards.
- Field lighting exceeding 200 lux.
- A clubhouse facility to support training and matches.
Oztag:
- Allocation of three standard soccer fields, providing six oztag fields for local competitions and events.
Bendigo Bank Basketball Stadium
A major addition to the precinct is the Bendigo Bank Stadium, a state-of-the-art basketball facility catering to the region’s growing basketball community.
Key features include:
- Two indoor courts.
- All-ability change facilities.
- Umpire services and club meeting rooms.
- Dedicated health and fitness spaces.
The stadium will be home to the Hervey Bay Basketball Association, which boasts nearly 600 registered players. It will also be available for community hire, ensuring broad access for local events and activities.
Construction is underway, with completion expected by late 2025. This $2.8 million project is funded by a Fraser Coast Regional Council grant and a $50,000 contribution from Bendigo Bank, highlighting strong community and stakeholder collaboration.
Location
The Sports and Recreation Precinct is conveniently located at the corner of Woods Road and Road 477 in Nikenbah. It is easily accessible via major roads, including Maryborough/Hervey Bay Road, Woods Road, Main Street, Booral Road, and Chapel Road.
The precinct is approximately 20 minutes from Maryborough and between 5 to 14 minutes from most areas in Hervey Bay.
