A new arbour (pergola-style passageway) is being built at the Maryborough Garden of Rest Lawn Cemetery. Stage 1 of the project will cover 40 metres and will include space for about 400 new ashes interments.
The project is needed to provide enough facilities for ashes interments to meet future demand.
Work is expected to start around 25 March 2025 and should be finished by June 2025, depending on the weather.
Nathan Gibson Concreting has been hired to build the concrete pathway, while Council’s Cemeteries staff will handle the rest of the construction, including filling columns with concrete, installing timber battens, and landscaping.
The total estimated cost of the project is $75,000.
The new arbour will create more space for ashes interments, ensuring families have a peaceful place for remembrance. The community will be informed about the project through Council’s website and Facebook page.
