River Heads Car Park

The second stage of a $1.5 million project to improve parking at the River Heads boat ramp will get underway in March.

Stage 2 of the project will deliver a new 68-space car park.

Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari welcomed the work as part of the region’s economic recovery plan.

“This is a fantastic investment from the Palaszczuk Government to help drive Hervey Bay and River Head’s economic recovery.

“By upgrading and expanding this carpark we’re ensuring the ramp is more accessible for locals and tourists alike, that will be critical in supporting local tourism and hospitality jobs.

“This investment, on top of the previous work to upgrade the facilities, will be a great bonus for small businesses in River Heads, with more people coming through the town and spending money on their way to the boat ramp.

“Projects like this are upgrading vital infrastructure and more importantly, delivering jobs for locals as Queensland continues its economic recovery.”

An extra 13 spaces were also created adjacent to the ramp in stage one of the project.

“There is a real need for more space at the River Heads ramp,” Councillor Zane O’Keefe said.

“The ramp is popular with fishos and boaties heading up the Mary River, Susan River or out into the Sandy Strait.

“It is also the front door to Fraser Island for day trippers and campers.”

The new car park will be built at the top of the hill on Ariadne Street, about 450 metres from the ramp and linked by a walkway.

“We have run out of room on the point adjacent to the ramp itself to build car parks, so Council bought land at the top of the hill to build a new carpark,” Cr O’Keefe said.

The construction work for the project has been awarded to Kirbro Contracting Pty Ltd. It is anticipated that the carpark will start on March 15 take 14 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The $1.5 million project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government in association with Fraser Coast Regional Council through the Building our Regions program.
