Access to parks and natural areas in Maryborough have been given a boost by the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Work is underway to install all abilities toilets at the Woocoo Wildlife Reserve on Teddington Road, Tinana, and the picnic ground at the Teddington Weir.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders welcomed the work at the Woocoo Wildlife Reserve which was made possible by the Palaszczuk Government’s COVID Works for Queensland program.

“This is a great project that’s underway right now thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s rolled gold COVID Works for Queensland program,” Mr Saunders said.

“By building this new toilet block we’re delivering more jobs for the Maryborough electorate and driving the region’s economic recovery.

“Importantly we’re making our community more accessible for everyone.”

The facility at Woocoo Wildlife Reserve will also benefit people visiting the nearby Maryborough Police Paddock Conservation Park, Cr Phil Truscott said.

“Ensuring that residents of all abilities can access our parks and natural areas is very important because we want as many people as possible to enjoy the many beautiful spots in our backyard to relax, unwind and recharge,” he said.

It is anticipated that the Woocoo Park project will be completed by the end of May.

The $80,000 project has been funded by a grant from the state government’s COVID Works for Queensland program.

Facilities at the Woocoo Wildlife Reserve facilities include a pond, viewing deck, two shelters with table settings, playground equipment, car park including disabled set down area and network of connecting pathways.

Further down Teddington Road the existing public amenities at the Teddington Weir Picnic Reserve are being revamped.

While the male and female cubicles will be refurbished the upgrade includes the addition of a unisex all abilities cubicle and set-down area.

“The picnic area at Teddington Weir is very popular,” Cr Truscott said.

“The water holes below the weir are popular for fishing and people like to walk in the bush around the weir.

“Teddington Road is also a very popular cycling route.”

The $83,000 project is being funded by Council and will take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.
