Local horseman could be honoured at showgrounds

The campdraft arena at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre Park could be named after local horseman and drafter Eb Lindley.

Cr Paul Truscott said the Fraser Coast Agriculture Show Society had approached Council about naming the campdraft arena after Mr Lindley, with Council now seeking community feedback.

“Eb (Leon) Lindley was passionate about campdrafting and was involved in events at the Fraser Coast Agricultural Show – as a participant and chief ring steward – from the 1950s until his passing in the late 1970s,” Cr Truscott said.

“Eb was also involved as a volunteer getting the show ready each year and packing up at the end. He was well known as a skilled horseman and drafter across Central Queensland and it was also part of his earlier working life as a dairy farmer, property manager and drover at Yengarie.

“Eb and his horse ‘Teddy’ travelled many kilometres together along local and regional stock routes.

“Eb lived in the Maryborough region from the 1950s until his passing at age 78 and was also one of the founding members of the Maryborough Pony Club.”

Council is now calling for feedback on the proposal to name the campdraft arena at the showgrounds in Mr Lindley’s honour via its Engagement Hub website at https://frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/mb-showgrounds-campdraft-arena

A short online survey is open now through to Tuesday 6 July 2021.

The proposal follows the recent naming of the woodchop arena at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park after local axeman and chainsaw racer Noel Hansen.
