The Burrum Heads Community Plan, the blueprint for the future development of the seaside village has been endorsed by Council.

Maintaining a relaxed small coastal community and fostering the environment, beaches, waterways, and coastal infrastructure are high on the list of priorities, Councillor James Hansen said.

“The plan is the culmination of a large body of community engagement,” he said.

“It is the culmination of significant work by Burrum Heads, residents, Council officers and staff from various government departments.

“The plan outlines a number of projects that the community would like to see developed. The projects range from creating a network of walking trails, a communal green area to an annual festival.

“Now that the community has identified its vision, Council can put those projects forward for funding in future budgets or lobby the state and Australian governments to become involved in projects.”

The Burrum Heads Community Plan Development Group , which was formed to help develop the plan, will continue to meet as the Burrum Heads Community Builders to develop an action plan that will identify time frames and key stakeholders to drive the delivery of individual projects.

Some of the initiatives outlined in the plan include creating an annual festival, establishing a neighbourhood centre and community precinct; a monthly bus service for the elderly and disabled to reduce social isolation; and develop a network of cycling and walking trails.

The plan will be available in the near future here.
