Fixter Park beach access to re-open

A build-up of sand will allow the temporary re-opening of a beach access adjacent to the Fixter Park amenities.

“The access was closed due to erosion, and people currently have to walk up a little further to the next access to come back to the main part of the beach,” Councillor Jade Wellings said.

“Earlier this year I raised a motion requesting a report on improving access to Fixter Park’s beach.

“Residents have shared concerns with me about the number of people jumping the fence to access the closed access and trampling on the dunes.

“People are doing this instead of walking up to the next access point.”

“While the access will be re-opened, how long it stays open will depend on how long the sand stays.

When the sand is gone, and the track is unsafe it will have to be closed again.”

Long term solutions to beach access at the park will be considered as part of the implementation of the Coastal Futures Strategy and Range and Level of Services project.
