Fraser Coast residents can now take an online survey to have their say on local laws covering everyday issues like animal management, parking, beach safety and waste management.

Councillor David Lewis said community engagement was under way now to gauge residents’ views on what they thought was working well with local laws and what they thought should be changed.

“Local laws help make our communities safer and better places to live and work,” he said.

“With many of our local laws having been in place since 2011, Council is conducting a review to ensure the laws reflect current community expectations and are easy to understand.

“Whether you own a pet or a boat, enjoy camping or events in the park, want to ride a scooter on a footpath or put in a new driveway, you may be interested in having your say about the local laws that relate to all of these activities and much more.

“Council has established a dedicated web page - https://frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/local-laws - where we now have an online survey that will be open until 19 August 2021.

“We are also running community workshops next week where residents can learn more and have their say on our local laws, but registration is essential as catering will be provided.”

The four local laws review community workshops are being held at:

  • Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, Pialba, Monday 26 July, 5.30pm – 8pm
  • Brolga Theatre Foyer, Maryborough, Tuesday 27 July, 5.30pm – 8pm
  • Tiaro Memorial Hall, Wednesday 28 July, 5.30pm – 8pm

Torbanlea Community Hall, Thursday 29 July, 5.30pm – 8pm

This initial round of community engagement on local laws began in June and is running through to late August.
