Pirates

Learn to swim, watch Shrek the Musical or build you own pirate ship – these are just a few of the school holiday activities being offered across the Fraser Coast.

“Both aquatic playgrounds, SplashSide in Maryborough and WetSide in Hervey Bay, have re-opened in time for the holidays, and there are a multitude of free and paid events on offer to keep children entertained,” Cr Phil Truscott said.

“You can also learn to swim, watch a pirate movie or hanga out on the inflatables at the pools; make a clay model or enjoy free train rides in Queens Park, Maryborough.”

“There also are a heap of activities in our libraries.”

Regional librarian Tara Webb said Fraser Coast Libraries’ school holiday activities were pirate themed in celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19.

“Pirate ship challenges, pirate movies and pirate crafts will take place at all branches – Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro, Howard and Burrum Heads,” she said.

“We also have an award-winning children’s author visiting to host some fun workshops in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.”

Ms Webb said the safety of the community was the highest priority for staff and well-established COVID-safe procedures would be followed at all library activities.

Tickets are free but bookings are essential and can be made at frasercoastlibraries.eventbrite.com.
