Lennox St works

Underway … Tom Stocks from SGQ and Councillor Daniel Sanderson check the progress of a project to rebuild a section of Lennox Street, Maryborough.

A section of one of Maryborough’s main thoroughfares, Lennox Street, is being rebuilt as part of a $1.3m project awarded by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to local company SGQ.

The company is currently completing the extension of the car park at the Brolga Theatre and will start on the road works in Lennox Street (between Walker and Churchill streets) at the end of September or early October.

“Lennox Street is a major thoroughfare,” Cr Daniel Sanderson said.

“Council has been progressively upgrading the road for a number of years, starting with the replacement of the pavement from Kent to Sussex Street following the replacement of underground pipes that drain stormwater from the CBD to the Mary River.

“It is anticipated that the project will be completed in April next year, weather permitting.

“Lennox Street is one of the main access roads into the CBD, as well as the Brolga Theatre.

“The road has reached the end of its serviceable life so needs to be replaced.”

The project includes new pavement and kerb and channel and a new footpath on the western side of Lennox Street between North and Churchill streets.

Cr Sanderson urged motorists to avoid the area, if possible, during the works.

“While the road will be open, there will be delays.

“We thank everyone in advance for their patience while this important work is underway.”
