Local law review 600

The first stage of the Fraser Coast Regional Council Local Law Review has been completed and the public feedback is being analysed.

“Council commissioned Engagement Plus to undertake the consultation which included community workshops, community forums, market stalls and an online survey,” Cr Paul Truscott said.

“More than 300 responses were received through an online survey and 1,575 comments collected through emails, feedback to Councillors and discussions at market stalls.”

The Council’s existing seven local laws were adopted in December 2011 and last reviewed in December 2015.

Council will also use the community feedback collected during the recent consultation in considering a proposal to re-introduce cat registration as part of the next phase of the local laws review.

“The community feedback on the local laws indicates there is strong support to simplify procedures, to ensure internal processes are consistent and timely, and to update terms and definitions,” Cr Truscott said.

The feedback will now be analysed and used in the development of new proposed Local Laws.

“It is anticipated that the proposed local laws will go out for public consultation in September 2022,” Cr Truscott said.

“Following that round of public consultation, Draft Local Laws will be developed and presented to Council in December 2022.”
