Prepare for self evacuation

Council is preparing for the Mary River to flood and inundate the Granville Bridge by lunch time today (Saturday), cutting access to Granville due to high rainfall in the upper Mary River catchment from ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth.

The current forecast is that the river will exceed the major flood level of 9 metres sometime tomorrow. This is the equivalent height of approximately 4M above the Lamington Bridge.

While it is not anticipated that houses in Granville will be inundated, residents will be cut off from Maryborough for possibly several days.

There is a small window of opportunity for Granville residents to access the Maryborough shopping areas before the bridge is inundated.

We urge residents have ample supplies to cover the bridge being closed for up to three days.

Residents should continue to listen to weather warnings provided on ABC radio and provided through the Bureau of Meteorology website and the Council’s Disaster Dashboard Site.
