Damage Assessments and Council Facilities

Back

Council and Queensland Government agencies will be doing damage assessments right across the Fraser Coast, including outlying communities.
Roads staff are heading to Glenwood and towards Brooweena over the next few days. In Glenwood assessment crews will be concentrating on ensuring roads are trafficable and property owners have access, especially on Abbots Road which sustained significant damage.

Damage investigations are still underway across the region so repairs can be prioritised.

While some areas are now becoming more accessible, many roads and bridges remain cut and won’t be able to be used until it is safe to do so.

UPDATE Bridges: Bridge inspections are being carried out accross the region and will be re-opened as quickly as possible.

  • Burrum River Bridge is open.
  • Schultz Bridge is open.
  • Saltwater Creek Bridge open.
  • Laminton Bridge is open.
  • Granville Bridge is open.
  • Clifton Creek Bridge is closed.

PARKS & PLAYGROUNDS: Council staff are visiting all rural and urban parks that are accessible to investigate damage. Flood affected playgrounds and facilities will be closed for public safety.
How quickly the parks will reopen depends on how quickly the ground dries to allow maintenance vehicle access to undertake the required works, this will include gurney and chemical clean all playgrounds and other hard infrastructure, Excavate and replace all contaminated softfall, Clean all facilities (like BBQs) and call in electricians to check/reinstate power and Odour will be monitored.

MARYBOROUGH AQUATIC CENTRE: Work is underway to clean and re-open the Maryborough Aquatic Centre, which was inundated by about a half a metre of flood water. Pumping out of the Olympic size pool and two 25-metre pools has started (this is about 3.2 million litres of water). Staff will start the big clean up tomorrow (Tuesday, January 11) as the facility dries out. There is significant damage to grating so the reopening of the Maryborough Aquatic Centre will depend on how quickly new grates can be sourced and other replacement parts can be obtained. Council will keep swim clubs and residents informed with the progress of works.

SPLASHSIDE AT ANZAC PARK: Open, This facility is still operational and has not been affected by the floods.
