A $540,000 project to improve drainage in a section of Honiton Street, Hervey Bay is scheduled to start at next week (Monday, February 7).

The tender for the project has been awarded to local company Jac Civil.

“The project will improve drainage and access for residents in the section of Honiton Street between Torquay Terrace and the Mary to Bay Rail Trail,” Councillor David Lee said.

“As part of the project, earth mounded table drains will be replaced along with the kerb and channel and underground stormwater pipes.

“The road pavement will also be rebuilt.

“The project was identified as part of Council’s road reconstruction prioritisation program.”

The project includes:

  • Excavation and earthworks;
  • Pavement rehabilitation works including new asphalt surfacing;
  • New kerb and channel;
  • Driveway crossover construction;
  • Replacement of existing drainage system with underground stormwater network;
  • Subsoil drainage works;
  • Pavement marking, and;
  • Restoration works.

It is anticipated that the project will be completed in April, weather permitting.

“While access will be maintained for residents, we are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible while the project is underway,” Cr Lee said.
