The Mary River at Maryborough will reach the minor flood level of 5m overnight into Saturday.

The river level is likely to exceed the moderate flood level of 8m overnight Saturday into Sunday and may exceed the major flood level of 9m from Sunday morning. Further river level rises above the major flood level are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Mary River at Tiaro is currently at 8.7 metres and rising, with moderate flooding. The Mary River at Tiaro is likely to reach the major flood level of 12m overnight into Saturday and is expected to continue rising as upstream flood waters arrive.

In other developments today:

  • The Lamington Bridge is now closed with detours in place. It is expected to be closed for several days.
  • A sandbag filling points have been established in the Bunnings carpark in Maryborough and the Granville Hall.
  • Council was this afternoon installing the interim flood gate solution that forms part of Maryborough’s CBD flood protection system, and part of Adelaide Street is now closed for the duration of the flood event.

Granville residents need to be prepared to be cut off from Maryborough for potentially several days.

The Granville bridge will be closed at 3am tomorrow morning (Saturday) due to the flooding that will be experienced in Maryborough.
Please ensure you have enough personal supplies, particularly medication, as the bridge may be closed for several days.
The water levels may remain high as we wait for the first peak and then potentially have a second peak a couple of days later.

Minor flooding may also occur along the Burrum Rivers.

The Burrum River at Howard is currently at 5.21 metres (below minor) and rising. The Burrum River at Howard may exceed the minor flood level of 6m late this afternoon.
