Fraser Coast residents and visitors travelling to Tinnanbar will soon have a smoother journey with work underway to seal 1.4km of Tinnabar Road, the main access to the seaside village fronting the Sandy Strait.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council awarded the contract for the $1.13 million project to local company JAC Civil.

The work includes improving about 1.4km of the road, starting at the Cooloola Coast Road intersection, to Rural Collector standard with an 8m wide bitumen seal.

“It is anticipated that the work will be completed by August, weather permitting,” Cr Daniel Sanderson said.

“Council has a huge focus on improving our road network.

“In the budget this year about a third of the capital works budget - almost $50 million – was allocated on roads, bridges and drainage.”

The project is the first of four stages to seal the road into Tinnanbar, Cr Daniel Sanderson said.

Funding to complete further stages will be considered as part of future budget deliberations, he said.
