SplashSide to close until mid-June for repair works

The SplashSide water playground at ANZAC Park in Maryborough will close until mid-June to allow for a new pump to be delivered and installed.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Daniel Sanderson said a pump at SplashSide had corroded and needed to be replaced with delivery and installation of a new pump expected to take several weeks.

“SplashSide has proven popular since it opened in June 2021 and we are disappointed that it will need to close for a few weeks while the pump is replaced,” he said.

“The facility is still under warranty so a replacement pump will be covered under that warranty.

“We understand that this temporary closure will be frustrating for the community. Council is just as frustrated that a key element of the facility would become so corroded in such a short period of time and we will be investigating why.

“The only upside is that this work will occur now rather than in summer when the facility has much higher use. We thank everyone for the patience while a new pump is ordered, delivered and installed in coming weeks.”

Deputy Mayor Paul Truscott said SplashSide was a fabulous facility for families that includes a range of interactive water features, all-inclusive play equipment as well as shelters, barbecues and new toilets.

“Council is keen to ensure we have a healthy and active community here on the Fraser Coast and facilities like SplashSide help us to achieve that outcome,” he said.

“It’s been wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of families enjoying SplashSide and I look forward to the facility reopening in mid-June after these works are completed.

“It’s all about ensuring we provide the best and safest facility we can for our residents and visitors.”

The SplashSide Water Play and All Abilities Playground is a joint initiative of Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Government, which provided $3 million through the COVID Works for Queensland program.
