Rural Residential Land Strategy
Following the adoption and implementation of the Fraser Coast Planning Scheme 2014 on the 28 January 2014. Council received numerous requests to consider rural residential style subdivisions outside the rural residential zoned areas. A shortage of rural residential land in the region had been suggested.
Council is committed to continuously improving the Fraser Coast Planning Scheme 2014; however, a robust strategy for decision making and policy change is required prior to decisions allowing the expansion of rural residential areas.
In 2018 Council engaged consultants to prepare a rural residential strategy to understand the Fraser Coast’s supply of and demand for rural residential land.
The strategy identifies appropriate policy responses to address specific requirements to support the community’s preferences for residential lifestyle and living environments. This will ensure the community continues to have access to a range of desirable housing options and environments.
On 26 June 2019 Council resolved to endorse the Fraser Coast Rural Residential Strategy. The key actions contained in the Strategy will be delivered through the future Local Government Infrastructure Plan and the Planning Scheme statutory review processes
The Strategy consists of two parts:
- Volume one - Fraser Coast Rural Residential Strategy (PDF)
- Volume two - Fraser Coast Rural Residential Evidence Report (PDF)
