Howard Library to close temporarily for renovations

The Howard Library will be closed from May 21 until early July to allow the building to be extended in the first stage of a wider renovation.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor David Lewis said stage one of the works would maximise the space available in the computer area and include the installation of new customer service desk.

“The improvements are designed to meet customer needs and increase access to services and activities,” he said.

Cr Lewis said Howard Library would be closed from noon on Saturday, May 21 until the first stage of the renovation was completed in early July, weather permitting.

“We understand how valuable the Howard Library is to the community and while it is being renovated, members can use the branches at Burrum Heads, Maryborough, Hervey Bay or Tiaro for their needs or they can participate in a click and collect or home delivery service which will be provided once a week,” he said.

“This will involve people reserving books online, or ordering them over the phone, and then picking them up from the Howard Library car park or having them delivered to their home on a set day and time each week.

“For children, we’ll provide pop-up activities in the park and regular school visits.”

Cr Lewis said future stages of renovation works would include repositioning of the entrance to improve accessibility, landscaping and inclusive spaces for children and young people.

“We thank the Queensland Government for providing $75,000 through the 2020-2021 COVID Works for Queensland program to help us with this renovation project.

“We also thank residents in advance for their patience during this time.”
