Colourful van to deliver library services to small communities
Families in smaller communities on the Fraser Coast will be able to attend pop-up Under 5 Time sessions and borrow books and toys when an eye-catching new Fraser Coast Libraries First 5 Forever van hits the road.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said libraries staff would regularly tour the region in the van to take fun literacy and learning opportunities to the wider community.
“We’re delighted to be able to directly deliver our services to families living across the diverse landscape of the Fraser Coast through the new First 5 Forever library van,” he said.
“Library staff will visit families far and wide in our local communities with books, toys and other items to borrow; and host fun activities or participate in community events to promote the benefits of reading, singing, talking and playing with children.
“Our aim is to improve the literacy skills of all youngsters in our community and provide opportunities and access to resources to those families who may not be able to visit one of our five library branches.
“We also hope it will inspire a love of reading in families and encourage a sense of belonging and community involvement.”
Regional librarian Tara Webb said staff members were looking forward to connecting with more children across the region and supporting them to succeed.
“During the first few years of life, more than a million new connections are forming in children’s brains every second,” she said.
“Sharing stories, talking, singing and playing with youngsters from birth builds a strong foundation for their future development and delivers benefits which can last a lifetime.”
