Bauple flood way

Access during floods and wet weather will be greatly improved for residents of Bakers Road, Bauple.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Phil Truscott said the existing gravel floodway regularly flooded cutting the road.

“The existing gravel floodway has been badly damaged in previous floods and heavy storms, which requires significant work to re-shape the floodway and re-gravel after events,” he said.

“As part of a $570,000 upgrade, about 90-metres of gravel floodway will be replaced with concrete culverts.

“The culvert floodway and approaches will be higher than the existing floodway, which will improve access for residents and cut the cost of repairing the road and floodway after rain events.

“Council is determined to ensure we have resilient regional infrastructure, and the concrete floodway culvert is a cost-effective solution that helps us achieve that outcome.”

The floodway will be closed while the project is underway, with the works starting this week and expected to be completed by October, weather permitting.

Council received $320,000, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland governments under the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund (QRRRF) for the project.
