New leases for landcare and history groups

The Fraser Coast Regional Council will renew leases with the Tiaro and District Landcare Group and the Maryborough Wide Bay Burnett Historical Society.

The Landcare group has operated out of the former Tiaro Council Chambers on Mayne Street for the past 10 years.

The group will be given a new 10-year lease, Councillor Phil Truscott said.

The group’s unique approach to Landcare and its Mary River turtle conservation program has achieved worldwide recognition.

Through the biennial Tiaro Field Day, which attracts more than 3,000 visitors and many exhibits, the group encourages sustainable agriculture.

Council will also renew a lease with the Maryborough Wide Bay Burnett Historical Society over part of the ground floor of the School of the Arts Building in Kent Street, Maryborough.

The society has used sections of the School of the Arts Building to store historical documents, photographs, and collections.
